One Day as CEO's assistant

我的一日:高管助理

 

Preparation:

When I received the confirmation email about that I will be one-day assistant for Larry Wang, the founder and CEO of Wang&Li Asia Resources, I was both nervous and excited. Nervousness was caused because I didn’t know too much about Larry and his company. Two-day preparation for me was a bit tight. Furthermore, excitation was aroused because I was one of the luckiest black apple youths who can take part in “one-day assistant”. After calming down, I began to search related information and thought about the questions that I can ask Larry about my future career development.

 

前期准备:

在得知自己即将要给王李亚洲资源的创始人兼CEO: Larry Wang做一日助理的消息时,心情既紧张又兴奋。紧张是源于自己对王李亚洲资源和Larry Wang的了解并不多,非常担心自己能否在短短两天时间内做好充分的准备,并且利用好这一天的学习机会,在一日助理体验当日尽职尽责。而兴奋是因为自己竟然也成为了为数不多的,能够体验“高管一日助理”的幸运果果之一。在慢慢平复自己的心情后,我开始搜集资料,也琢磨着该向Larry咨询哪些有助于自己今后职业发展的问题…

 

Working schedule

 

Larry started his day with different meetings. Firstly, morning meeting was held to share recent hot news and confirm the work which should be done at that day. Then Larry had a meeting with department leaders in order to communicate and coordinate the problems. I was in charge of recording meeting summary, 1and deeply impressed by Larry’s leading ability and passion for his job at the meantime. After that, marketing colleagues discussed with Larry about the video which was about to release: Career Success in 32 seconds. Striving for excellence is always the mission of Wang&Li Asia Recourses. Although it was just a 32-second video, they thought it’s still worthwhile to consider every detail and try to finish it perfectly. In the afternoon, the website design issues was discussed with IT colleagues. I noticed that Larry kept asking questions and presenting his thoughts. As CEO of a company, he still can totally contribute himself to those trivial things, which is different from other companies.

 

工作日程:

Larry的一天是从各种公司内部会议开始的。首先是和所有员工开了晨会,互相分享最近的热门新闻,并且确认当日需要落实的工作。随后是和部门负责人的会议,主要确认工作进度,沟通和协调出现的问题。全程我都在一边做会议纪要,不禁感叹Larry作为公司CEO的领导能力和对工作的热情。之后,Larry针对最近要发布的“32秒职场箴言”视频,和市场部同事进行了讨论。精益求精是Larry以及他的团队一直在追求的,哪怕只是短短的32秒,也值得他们从每个细节仔细推敲,力争做到完美。下午,Larry和IT的同事讨论了网站设计的问题。我注意到Larry不厌其烦的向IT同事表达自己的想法,大到网页排版,小到字体颜色。他作为CEO,仍然能对琐碎小事亲力亲为实属不易,这也印证了我后文提到的“大家庭”一说。

 

Reflection:

Before being one-day assistant for Larry, I already searched some daily records from previous “one-day assistant” activities. At first, I thought I would follow with Larry all day outside the company, but I was told one day ago that I only needed to stay in the company. Because of that, I guessed my job might be sorting out documents or recording meeting summary. However, when I went to the company, the tasks which Larry gave me were totally different from my imagination. Every conversation with employees should be recorded by me. At the meantime, he also taught me how to record in an effective and accurate way. Furthermore, he asked me to interview employees in the company, which made me a bit surprised. Actually his intention was to let me learn more about recruitment company, and get useful suggestions from those who are in same age with me.

 

Although I am only one-day assistant for Larry, I really learned a lot. As the CEO of company, Larry doesn’t mind to communicate with employees once they met problems. Instead of boss and employees, I think their relationship is more like a big family without any estrangement and hierarchic organization. This made me fully understand: communication and support with each other is one of the most important factors for a successful company. In addition, he always emphasized that Wang&Li not only helps international company to search high quality and talent people, but also focuses on candidates’ long-term career development, and gives them the best solutions.

 

This is no doubt a busy and meaningful day. I never had such a real career experience before, and this was also my first time to witness how a real company works, so I felt quite pressured. As university students, we do need this kind of practical experience to go further in the society. Only when you experience different people and things, you will be aware of your weaknesses. 体验感想:

事前我在网上查了已经做过一日助理的果果们分享的助理日志,也了解了作为一名助理的主要职责。一开始以为自己会跟随Larry参与在公司外的一天行程,但是在前一天晚上才得知自己的一日助理体验都会在公司完成。于是我又猜想,既然在公司内,那我的职责无非就是整理资料,会议记录等一些基本任务。但是当我到了公司之后,Larry布置给我的任务和我想象的完全不一样。他和公司每一个员工的谈话都需要我在旁做记录,并且他还指导我怎样才能准确有效率的记录笔记。除此之外,他要求我采访公司员工,这令我颇感意外。其实他的意图是希望我多了解猎头公司这个市场,同时也听听和我差不多年纪、已经走入职场的人对我提的宝贵建议。

 

虽然只为Larry做了短短一天的助理,但我学到了太多。作为公司的CEO,Larry丝毫不介意大家遇到问题时及时与他沟通和讨论。与其说上司与员工,不如说他们的关系和相处模式更像一个大家庭,没有隔阂,没有阶级之分。这使我充分理解到:及时沟通和互相支持是一个公司取得成功的重要因素。此外,他一直强调王李亚洲资源不仅仅只是单纯的帮助跨国企业寻找双语高素质人才,更多的是关注候选人今后的长期职业发展和规划,给予候选人最专业的解决方案。
